Don't Mess With Mother Nature

Last Wednesday, it was almost 70 degrees here. The sun was o' so bright. We traded in our down filled coats and wool hats for flouncy dresses and funky sandals. And it seemed as though most New Yorkers were positively giddy. I was stuck in the dungeon like restaurant for a dirty double on the warmest of the warm days. Co workers pranced in after spending the day playing frisbee in Central Park or hanging out in the numerous outdoor cafes. Some even mentioned that they put away all of their winter clothes. "Be careful." I warned, "winter is not quite over yet." I was not trying to be a party pooper. I want spring here just as much as the next person, but come on! Anyone who has lived in the Northeast for more than 2 years should know better. We did get over 8 inches of snow on Friday.

The weather here is unpredictable and it's not just because of global warming ( although that has made it even more quirky). We all remember days, even weeks in March when it's been warm and the smell of spring is in the air. Flowers began to bloom, birds are chirping, people began their spring cleaning and then, sometimes overnight, the temperature drops 40 degrees and you awake to a foot of snow. Heck, it's happened in late April. A friend of mine claims that he remembers it snowing as late as June in upstate NY. I'm not too sure about that. It did snow in Port Charles in August, (when I was 12 years old) but, that was all because of the Ice Princess. And Luke & Laura did come in and save the day. OK.... back to reality. Is Mother Nature just cruel? I don't think so. Every once in a while she likes to remind everyone that she's still the boss. And these little glimpses of warm weather that she throws our way is too show us the light at the end of the very dreary, dark grey tunnel we call winter in New York. So, who knows when the nice weather will truly arrive. In the meantime time, I'm heading south to Nashville for an interior redesign conference. It will be a balmy 68 degrees the entire time I'm there. Thank goodness for inexpensive air travel.

we are just getting a tease of warm weather right now. I've been holed up in the studio non-stop, so at the moment, it doesn't matter much to me! WAIT...I take that back, an open window would be nice!!!!
