PURA VIDA in 2008

Pura Vida is a common Costa Rican expression. It's literal translation is pure life, but it generally can also mean cool, great, OK or even used as a greeting. Pura Vida is a sign of the optimistic outlook that Ticos (local Costa Ricans) have on life. I'm not big on new year resolutions. I find that for myself, it just adds more pressure to my already stressed days. But, I do have some goals that I like to set at the beginning of every year. Some are personal, others career oriented. Some are easily within reach, others are way above the stars. I write them done and place them in an envelope and look at them from time to time. I have not sat down yet to put them on paper for 2008. I do think at the very top will be to adopt a more "Pura Vida" attitude.

It's not only to be more optimistic, I think that I'm very hopeful about things. Tom does tell me time and time again that I worry too much about things that may never happen. I call it being prepared, just in case. It's also about living a more pure life. Now that can be translated in many different ways. To me "pure life" means to enjoy more, worry less; Relax more, stress less; To spend more time doing what I want to do and less time filled up with obligations; Control less and let spontaneity in; To feed my creative soul more and the work monger less. And to surround myself with family and friends who know how to laugh out loud, enjoy life and be truly loving and supportive of one another. So here's to 2008! May you all find the things that you've been searching for, the things that truly feed your soul. And may you all find your very own piece of PURA VIDA.
