Hmmmm....

Last night, I didn't try out a family recipe. I made grilled cheese. My grilled cheese sandwiches rock! Maybe, I should write a grilled cheese cookbook, instead. I could have that book written in no time at all.

Momma Was Right

Last night I tried another recipe for the first time, pepper biscuits. I added extra pepper & fennel seeds to my dough because I thought that it didn't look right. I also thought that maybe Momma(my grandmother)was a little off on her measurements. Well, she was right, because my pepper biscuits sucked! They were so spicy & peppery that I couldn't eat them. Tom ate a few & said, "They're good, but, not my favorite family recipe," as tears streamed down his face. So, I'll make them again & hope for the best.

Ikea = Happy

I went to Ikea yesterday & it brought me so much joy. I bought lots of things for my kitchen & may have to return something. That's o.k. because it's another reason to go back to Ikealand.
I made wine biscuits on Friday. Tom doesn't quite get the wine biscuit concept. He thinks they are closer to a cookie than a biscuit, but, they are not as sweet as your average cookie. He wants me to play around with the recipe so that they can fit into a meal. Wine biscuits are not suppose to go with a meal. They are a treat. You know, like when you are watching t.v. or something. Besides, eating them makes me happy, because there are so many memories associated with them. So, I think I'm going to leave the recipe as is.

Balloon Hand

Two nights ago, I woke up in the middle of the night with what I thought was some mosquito bites. Well, this morning my hand is the size of a balloon. I called my doctor & he said its probably a non poisonous spider bite. There's not much they can do for it. Great! Those of us living in NYC already have to deal with cockroaches, mice & other vermin. Now, there's really angry biting spiders to contend with. Tom didn't even receive a tiny nibble from Mr. Spider. Tomorrow, I'm making wine biscuits, with my balloon hand & all.

Goal Time

I set a big goal for myself & I'm making it public (so I can't chicken out). I am going to have all of my family recipes tested & the stories about them written in 6 months. Yes, six months from today. I'm getting hives just thinking about it! That was the whole purpose of this site in the first place & I've been pretty slack about it. I guess that means I have to make at least 2 recipes a week, which, for most people wouldn't be so difficult. For me it's another story. I work 3-4 nights a week, so dinner is on the go those nights. Tom & I love to go out to eat at least once a week. I'm not the greatest chef in the world & oh yeah, most of my family members do not write their recipes down. I will not let any of the above deter me. Wish me luck.

The Raff's Dinner Party

We all had such a great time last night. Jen was the best hostess(& the cutest pregnant woman I've ever seen). Paul did all the cooking. We had foie gras from their trip to Paris & wild salmon from their Alaskan adventure. There was lamb & steak & an amazing cheese plate. My dessert was a big hit. And we drank so much amazing wine(I have a headache today to prove it). What could be better than that? A night that was filled with food, friends & lots of liquor & laughter. I did take pictures so check the photo page in the next week or so.

Pavarotti Rocks

I went to see Pavarotti this weekend and he was great! He may be old and have some difficulty standing for a long period of time, but, his voice was amazing!
I'm going to a dinner party Sunday night at my friends, The Raffs. Paul & Jenn are one of my favorite couples. I'm going to make a dessert for them that my family calls "sex in a bowl". I'll take pictures & post the recipe next week.
I know that everyone wants to see the wedding photos. I'm still waiting for Gordon (my web designer) to post them. I'll let you know when they are ready.

L.A. " Secret Mission"

I went to Los Angeles about a month ago on a secret mission. A few of you knew what I was there for but, most did not. I was very quiet (that's a miracle) about it. Here's the scoop. I was flown out there by a major network to audition for a new t.v. series. The network is searching for the nation's next Domestic Diva. They tested our creative skills & interviewed us. I found out last Monday that I did not make the show. I was very upset & spent most of the week sobbing. I'm feeling much more positive now. I was one of 46 people picked to go to California, which means that I beat out thousands of contestants ( over 10,000). I may not have made it on their reality show, but I'm definitely on the right track. I'm more determined then ever to finish my cookbook & to show those network executives that they made a BIG MISTAKE!! As my grandfather Poppa, would say; To hell with them sum-men-na bitches!!
