Vieques

We returned home last week from our glorious family trip. Please note that a" family trip" is very different than a vacation. In fact, many people will feel like they need a vacation after a family trip. I have to admit that it takes me a bit longer then it use to, to get back into life's groove after being away from home. Is this an age thing? Anyhoo... on to some Vieques details.

We stayed with some dear friends who have almost 3 yr old twin girls. They have been traveling to Vieques for many years & got married there. I have never been to any place quite like this before. I almost do not want to share any info about the island because I fear word will spread & it will change.

Vieques is a quick puddle jumper ride from the San Juan airport. There are 2 main towns, Esperanza & Isabel II. Esperanza is the beach town so most shops & restaurant are looking out onto the ocean. The other town is more city like & it's where banks & grocery stores are. We did not check out much in the city though it did seem to be some decent bars and restaurants.

I fell in love with Vieques' gorgeous, uncrowded beaches. Warm turquisoise water & white sand for miles and literally a few other people within eye shot. There's also a black sand beach (which we did not go to) & pretty rocky beaches as well. We spent most of our time in a cove that was perfect for the little ones.

Horses roamed free all over the island & geckos entertained the kids. Chickens wandered into our yard every morning to awaken us from our slumber. The backyard had lime, mango and cashew trees. There's something so nice about picking the limes you need to squeeze into a rum punch or on our chicken tacos.

Both ends of the island are protected nature reserves. We drove through the old military bases with lots of bunkers built into the hills. Many of the beaches in that area are now open to the public but the rest of it is completely untouched. And it seems that much of Vieques is just like that; untouched and under developed.

I know that my words are not doing this place justice, but I really liked it here and hope to go back. There's still so much to explore on this small island.

Vieques Bound

We are in the middle of getting ready for a vacation. There's still too much to do before we leave. Why is that? I swear I started making lists and running errands for this weeks ago with the hopes that I would not be scrambling at the last minute. Guess what? I'm scrambling as we speak. There simply are not enough hours in the day or enough hands to get everything accomplished. I sooooo want an assistant. Ok, Im off to cross more things off my list. See you soon!

Shame on You!!

A phrase that is so rarely uttered nowadays. Or so it seems. I would love to bring not only the phrase back to life but also the feelings of shame. I'm just plain sick and tired of seeing one more politician, starlet/socialite & even every day folks doing things that use to make people blush (& not in a good way) without a care at all. Being able to show regret is not a weakness. It's a sign that maybe you truly cared about hurting others with your actions. A fall from grace many times opened the disgraced eyes so that a lesson could be learned.

Hollywood types, it's not OK to be photographed without your underwear over & over again. Put on a pair of panties! Not all publicity is good. Let's all say it together now, "SHAME ON YOU!"

Politicians what happened to the days when a sex scandal meant the end of a career? Or at the very least, a heartfelt apology to your family and your constituents? And even those that stayed in office laid low for a while, working to rebuild a reputation. Now you can get caught soliciting sex in a public bathroom, sleep with your male aid, live with other senators in a frat house where all the married boys bring in loose women daily and still go on CNN preaching about family values. Please, wipe that smirk off your face! Everybody now, " SHAME ON YOU!"

It's not OK to get convicted of beating your girlfriend(Hiram Monserrate), get expelled from the NY State Senate & then try to run for your old seat as a Republican, I mean Independent or anyway you can. "HAVE YOU NO SHAME!"

Sarah Palin, there's absolutely nothing funny about writing speech notes on your hands. That's something we did in grade school. Once you hit the big leagues you can use things like note cards or teleprompters. And to turn around and say that God wrote on his hands so it's OK, is crazy talk. "SHAME, SHAME, SHAME!"

And these discrepancies are not only for the rich or famous. Nope, it's trickling down to everyday life as well. Married people cheating openly & getting caught without one ounce of remorse; backstabbing tactics in the business world; excessive greed & consumption, stupidity & ignorance & so on & so on. OK everyone join in together," YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES!!!
