O dreaded winter has arrived once again. The sun was shining today but, don't let that fool you because it was only 21 degrees. I do have a confession to make - I don't like winter! Yes, I'm definitely on the wrong coast. There was a time when I prayed for the cold months to arrive. I couldn't wait to go skiing, ice skating & dress up in cozy, fluffy sweaters. Now I dream about sitting in a hammock in Costa Rica sipping a Pina Colada. Yes, I've become quite a baby during the cold weather months. I wear layer upon layer of clothing, a hat, gloves, you name it, but still I freeze. I bitch & moan every time I get caught in a wind tunnel (which is daily). There is one bright spot in this freezing frenzy. Yes, you guessed it - HOT CHOCOLATE! It has become my reward for dredging through the icy NYC streets. Every cup consoles me. I'm averaging about 5 cups a week. All of this consumption is not doing anything positive for my thighs but, it's doing wonders for my soul.
I still have not found a hot chocolate that is quite as delicious as Paris' Angelina's. They truly spoiled me, but the hunt is on. Mariebelle in SOHO is so very close. This weekend we got a cup from the West Village's trendy Chocolate Bar. It was pretty good but, their truffles are far better. Tom & I decided to look through well respected local mags & papers & compiled a Best Of list. So far we have 7 businesses to try. Mariebelle is on that list again because we just have to be absolutely certain that their hot chocolate is up to par. Our goal is to test one every week or so & document our experience. I'll of course, share it with all of you. I'm not sure if an actual winner will be chosen. It's more about finding something that we love to help us beat the winter blues. I can't wait to drink & be merry!
We have a tiny little place near here, crammed into a convenience-store strip on a rural highway, that does some awesome, and deadly, hot chocolate. Steamed milk, melted fudge...and a small scoop of real vanilla ice cream! It is to die for, along with cinnamon rolls as big as your head.
Hi Dawn! Thanks for visiting my blog via Michele. I wish we had a winter here. It's currently pretty cold, but it won't last. I'm praying for some snow, but I don't think it will happen. I am going to go drink some hot chocolate after reading this. I think it will make my throat feel better.
LOVE Hot Chocolate! Actually, I LOve any kind of Chocolate--Hot, Cold, Lukewarm, Room Temp. Etc. Get the picture? What a wonderful project--to discover the BEST Hot Chocolate in nYC..I think you should include Brooklyn Queens, Nassau County and Staten Island, too...I know I would!!! And Perhaps you should increase the weekly intake to 10 times a week....some of these might need to be tested twice, you know...!

As soon as I read the words "hot chocolate" I thought of Mariebelle. Last Christmas i brought a tin of their hot cocoa mix to my boyfriend's parents. Sooooo good!
